Wild On Wednesday: Lingerie Attitude

August 25, 2010 by

As the weather starts to cool down, sadly so do the sales.  So for the next couple of weeks; until the pre-holiday sale season starts (I know, it’s crazy,  in a few weeks we’ll start talking about the holidays…where does the time go?), Bargain Wednesdays will be a mix of product reviews, news, rants and musing mostly about lingerie, but can, and probably will include make-up, beauty products, cooking…the holidays remember and whatever is bugging me at the moment.  But first…

News Briefs

Illamasqua, my new favorite make-up line and whose tagline is: Make-up for your alter ego, is having a fundraiser for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation which was created to reinforce the message; Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere (S.O.P.H.I.E).  You can help by simply watching the film & spreading the word or buying a S.O.P.H.I.E. eyeliner or wristband with proceeds going to the foundation or make a direct donation.

Petite D+ ladies Becheeky has heard your cries and has answered with some beautiful bras from 2wenty8 with, you guessed it,  bands starting at 28″ backs.   Prices start at only $45.

I just stumbled across the most darling hosiery from U.K. site Last online. They specialize in art and design led shoes and hosiery offering quality products from independent designers (including the to die for Funn and Japan’s Antipast)  that are not stocked anywhere else, providing an alternative to run of the mill brand names.  Because of this they rarely, if ever, have sales on hosiery.  Why mention it then?  Because when I find something that’s worth paying full price for, it’s news.

Bees In My Bonnet

Lately I’ve encountered a lot of interesting opinions on lingerie, luxury lingerie in particular and it’s been as fascinating as it’s been infuriating (one post still clung to the old Color Me Beautiful chart where 75% of all women should wear only four colors of lingerie…Yikes!)  But what I’ve really been struggling with lately is the “Lingerie Attitude”.  Lingerie, like art, is so subjective that trying to decide the value based on the raw material makes no sense.  A canvas, a couple of tubes of oil paint and my puppy and you’ve got quite a mess, the same scenario with Jackson Pollack and you’ve got a masterpiece.  Designer lingerie cost money not based on the raw material but everything that goes into producing it and getting it to market.   I am not a rich woman but I will pay, gladly, for quality and the beauty of lingerie is you can buy last season (on Sale) and nobody will know, unless your S.O. is like “Oh no you didn’t! That Myla London set is so 2008″  and if that’s the case you have a problem far greater than what you are wearing.

Lingerie, for most of us, isn’t going to make you rich,  put food on the table or help the disadvantaged.  It is foolish, frivolous and self-indulgent, it’s also beautiful, fun and a wonderful treat.  So feel free to either stick to the utilitarian notion that it’s there to serve a purpose and no more (work or sex) or you can and have some indulgent fun and wear what makes you look and feel good.  The choice is yours but if you can’t see it in person make sure you know the return policy.

Is that bee directed to me? ;)

I get what you're saying here. Things are absolutely subjective, but I still can't get behind some brands (and I think you know who I'm talking about here) that charge outrageous prices just for their name.
