Wedding lingerie – low back dress edition
April 16, 2007 by Danae
Spring brides are flowering all over the country, and with all the buzz of weddings in the air, we think it’s high time to throw some lingerie lovin’ their way. Over the next three days, we’ll be picking out lingerie for three very popular wedding dress styles and picking out lingerie to match. For our first dress, we’ve picked one of the hardest: the strapless, low-back dress.
Lingerie for low-backed, strapless gowns

The problem this dress presents for lingerie is simple: there’s no support. In lowering the back band of a bra, you immediately lose the main structural support (the band), meaning it’s a lot tricker to make things work. What’s the solution? Provide the support from below, using a bustier or corset. Depending on the bride’s cup size, one of these options should provide enough support while staying hidden under that gorgeous dress.
Bustiers for low-back dresses

Our favourite low-back pick is this simple and stunning choice from Felina – available in cup sizes A to DD, the bustier provides gentle support and keeps everything in place on the big day. One thing to note with this bustier – it’s made to suck you in and push you out, so the fit will be tight. The experts over at Bits of Lace advise that the back size runs a bit small, so they recommend ordering one back size larger than normal. The bustier is £69 at Figleaves UK, and $69 in the US from Gigi’s Closet (UK readers, Gigi’s will ship internationally for $30).
If you’re a smaller cup size, the Malizia “Night and Day” short bustier is a beautiful choice as well, coming in at £57 in the UK and $72 at Figleaves US.
For larger cup sizes, Panche’s Special Occasion bustier will give strapless, low-back support for up to a G-cup. It’s a great price at just £27 at Uplifted Lingerie or $59 at Lauren Silva lingerie.
Corsets for low-backed dresses

If you’re looking for something a bit more special, a low-backed corset is a great choice and will serve you well long after the wedding day. While these aren’t the easiest corsets to find online, we’ve managed to find two to serve as a reference point. As most corsetiers make corsets to order anyway, you’ll likely be able to specify a low back when you order your corset.
An institution of corsetry, of course Vollers has a low-backed corset. This ivory satin lovely (pictured above left) is two inches lower in the back than normal corsets, and is even on sale at La Magia lingerie in the UK for £82.50. US readers, La Magia ships worldwide for free, but if you want to find it in the US, the product code is V1921U.
Many bridal corsetiers will have a special low-back design for dresses such as these, and we love this option from Bridal Corsets.com (pictured above right). At £199 it’s a bit more expensive, but will be tailored to your exact size. US readers, just look for a corset maker like U.S. designer Romantasy in your area, and you can use these for reference.
What about you?
Have you worn a dress like this and had to solve this lingerie problem? What did you wear? How was it? Tell us in the comments!

Special lingerie for the wedding day is a must have!
A Corset always looks hot and they are amazingly comfortable to wear.
I agree, special lingerie for a special day.
So beautiful! I think If you are a romantic bride who live with the dream of your prince, the castle, the fairy-tale ending, and finally find your Mr. Prince, you can keep your eye on a Cinderella ball gown or a dress with layer upon layer of lace. Just think of it, ruffles, billowy tulle, romantic lace and an essential tiara, exciting?
