Wedding lingerie: halterneck dress edition
April 17, 2007 by Danae
Next up in our springtime bride series are some lingerie picks for the fabulous halterneck dress. This style is flattering for so many shapes — if you’re a smaller cup size the halterneck can create cleavage, and if you’re a larger cup size, you can show off your assets in a classic style. But what lingerie should you wear to best suit the dress?

The Ritratti Star Cup Bra

First up is a sensational bra from Ritratti – the Star Cup bra. Not only does it look fantastic, but the cut-away style makes it perfect for those low-plunging halter necks. To take advantage of all that cleavage opportunity, the silicon-gel bra is also a push up, and very handily, has convertible straps to blend right under your dress. For all this fabulousness, the bra isn’t cheap — we found it cheapest at $118 on Off7th.com, but if you need a different size or colour they don’t have, also try Bits of Lace and Underwear Options. Between those sites, you’ll find nude, white, and black options in cup sizes A to C.
For a similar style at a fraction of the price, Bare Necessities has a Lily of France bra for just $28. The bra is available in sizes A-D, and also allows for ultra-deep halter necklines. For an extra 5% off, use coupon code BW32VB at checkout.
Ultimo Plunge, Backless Body

Scottish label Ultimo has made their name for creating practical ranges that solve fashion problems. One of their most popular pieces is this backless bodysuit – it allows women to avoid stick-on bras but still create that dramatic look they’re going for. It’s available for cup sizes A-D, and has adjustable straps to be worn as a regular bra, halterneck, or criss-cross. You can buy the body for £40 at Ultimo UK, or $68 in the US.
Larger cup halterneck bras

Sadly, the choices for DD+ cup bras are limited, but we’ve managed to find a few pieces that will hold everything in place on the big day. For up to a DD-cup, this multiway bra looks similar to the Ritratti option, but weighs in at just £25 or $46 in the US. Fantasie also make a strapless, convertible bra that goes up to a G-cup (£30 in the UK, and $69 in the US).
The biggest difficulty in finding larger-cup halterneck bras is also finding a low plunge – Le Mystere has a good option for a more ‘sweetheart’ neckline ($62 in the US), but we can only seem to find it available in the US. We’ll keep checking for UK readers.
