The Other Woman – American Waspies and Corsets

November 18, 2005 by

In the United States, bespoke does not make up a lot of the lingerie sales. One retailer is trying to change that. Dorothy Jones runs “The Other Woman”. Dorothy made costumes on Broadway and now makes corsetry full time. She has a fantastic line and an eye for a particular favourite of mine – the Waspie.

This is the retro piece in the collection. You’ll likely notice the exaggerated garter tabs on this waspie. Everything is custom made and the Bettie is designed to sit under your bust line and is 12 panels. Pick this up for $320.

The Zora is shown as silver satin with black brocade trim. It is gorgeous. It also features a dropping waist line in the back that creates a dramatic swoop. It also features a smooth front. It is shown with six garter tabs, but you could probably make that four or eight depending on your preferences. Pick this up for $260 US.

The Hester is a traditional suspender. As Dorothy points out, panty hose and corsets won’t work well together. You’ll need to break out your stockings and you’ll need a suspender belt to do that. (This rule of thumb is true for as many occasions as you can apply it – wear your stockings.) The Hester is also one of the few pieces on the site that is not made to order. It is shown in a beautiful fabric and would work well with the under bust corset “Portia”. Pick it up for $80.
