Product Reviews: Katie’s Summer Bargains from Melissa Odabash, She and Me and Rescue Beauty Lounge!

Our bargains editor, Katie, has been enjoying some fantastic deals during the summer sales; she may have saved herself from bankruptcy, but has she enjoyed her bargains?

Katie’s Summer Bargains

As some of the regular readers may know I love a good sale and we’ve had a number of very good ones lately.  For me a great sale includes a fantastic discount on a fabulous product: you simply cannot have one without the other and still call it a great deal!

On June 10 & 13th I told you about the SheandMe Sale (50% off already discounted lingerie) and Melissa Odabash, Rescue Beauty Lounge bath & body and Amrita Singh bangles (-up to 80% off).  I bought the M.O. zebra pareo(was $108/paid $26), S&M Must-Have chemise (was $120/paid $28) & the sexy back boyshort (was $45/paid $6), RBL hand cream (was $20/paid $5) & exfoliating body wash (was $48/paid $12) and Amrita Singh bangles (was $100/paid $16).  My summer wardrobe  was a good start for my poolside jaunts and these humid mid-western evenings.

She and Me Must Have Chemise

She and me’s  Must-Have Chemise really is a must have – I wanted to wear it all day long! As well as loving the flattering cut and comfort, I just love the sheer prettiness of this chemise.  The knickers are really cute: they are really stretchy and are large made so you’ll definitely want to order a size smaller than usual – which could count as an extra bonus for some!

The She & Me Must Have Chemise gets a Grade A from me!

Melissa Odabash Zebra Pareo

I’ve loved Melissa Odabash for some time, so I was thrilled by the Shopbop Sale.  I managed to bag myself an amazing 70% off the Zebra Pareo, and if that wasn’t enough, an extra 20% with a promotion code and free shipping – what is there not to love!  The color (retro brown) works with most solid color tops and the heaviness of the fabric ensured my legs wouldn’t be bothered by any pesky mozzies. If there is a downside it’s that it sold out, so I hope you got yours!

Another Grade A bargain!

Rescue Beauty Lounge

Summer sun, pool chorine and bug repellent spray can wreak havoc with my skin, so I’m always interested in bath & body products that will keep dry skin at bay.  I’d only heard of Rescue Beauty Lounge nail lacquer (dazzling colors and matching price $18) and posh salons; since even the new line’s label was designed by Sara Rotman, I knew it was the pedigree I was hoping for.  Due to its fine grains the exfoliating body wash didn’t quite work for me as an exfoliant, but it’s delightful for a bubble bath!  The hand cream was lovely:  rich (RBL knows hands), but not greasy, it quickly absorbs into skin and all of the products smell great, with Wild Rosemary Pamplemousse being my all time fave!

I’m giving this a Grade B. And don’t forget, you can still enjoy 75% off with the promo code: SMELL GOOD!

I just purchased a 200.00 PJ set from Elizabeth Cotton because I work from home and wanted a comfortable and nice looking pair of PJ’s to work in. What a major dissapointment! The fabric is itchy and rough, the thread is sharp to my skin, the fabric is see thru, and the length was made for a pigmy. I cannot believe I paid over $200.00 for this! The sewing is uneven and like I said itchy uncomfortable what looks like very cheap fabric.

Where are the reviews for Elizabeth Cotton? I cannot believe no one else noticed this!

Hi Bella. These were reviewed in March, 2006 and it was mentioned that

“they were remarkably thin and light, almost crisp. The pajamas stay that way even after weeks of wear, retaining this lovely tailored feeling that’s not too soft, but not too stiff as well.”

It does sound like you got a bad run, I bought the peacock caftan and the above description was accurate, so you should return yours asap!

Other brands you may want to try include Hanro (I own the Pure -Affair gown) and Daniel A. Hanson (very expensive but very nice)
