Lingerie Review: Danae’s Mom tries Danskin’s Sports Bra

June 6, 2007 by Danae

My mum has been a silent supporter of Knickers since it’s creation — like me, she never really knew or cared about bra-sizing or lingerie a few years ago, but has become one of Knickers most loyal readers, feeding back on articles (as only a mother could!) and suggesting ideas.

Today she’s offered her own lingerie review, after completing her first 4k and trying her first “proper” sports bra. What we love is that she’s writing about lingerie women buy every day – in this case, a $10 bra she picked up at the local Wal-Mart.

Price: $15
Get them at: eBay (or try your local Wal-Mart where mom got hers)
Sizes: up to D

Meeting the challenge from my daughter to enter a local 4K walking event, I began preparing for my first event. Securing the necessities – appropriate shoes, comfortable shorts and top; I realized I need a new sports bra to minimize drag (as I would need all the wind resistance I could muster). As I had no time for a lengthy search I popped into a local department store and found the Danskin Now Medium Impact Active Sport Bra. It was pink and pretty, had stay dry sides, and even stated it was perfect for power walking. Unable to locate the DD cup I needed, I settled for a 38D and dreamed of power walkers’ heaven.

My disappointment began early the next morning when I attempted to put the thing on. I needed assistance, as getting this bra in place took longer than two men strapping someone into a race car. After the struggle it was finally in place. Ok, that’s better. It looks pretty. Immediately I noticed how the sides began to pinch into my skin, and it wasn’t truly comfortable. Oh well, it may only be worn once anyway (if I have a heart attack and die trying to finish this race).

During the course, however, I didn’t notice any pinching (breathing was on my mind) but I did note it appeared to provide support. No jiggle factor here (or maybe I’m not going fast enough to jiggle). By the end of the event I did not note any discomfort of the bra (as I was numb and didn’t feel anything at all).

In all honesty I will say despite my initial discomfort, this bra did its job as far as providing support – and it looks really pretty.

As I lived through this event, I have signed up for another course next week, wish me luck!
