Trying to describe Kriss Soonik’s lingerie label is an exercise in stamina – how many adjectives can we use to describe this manga-meets-vintage-meets-mickey mouse-meets-ingenue style before we drop dead of exhaustion? Actually, we can sum this label up a lot more quickly: if you like the bright Hollywood-Gwen-Stefani style, you’re going to love Kriss Soonik’s lingerie.

Manga, Hollywood, and Star Wars

Not unlike the Holla Back Girl, Soonik draws inspiration from Japanese manga and old Hollywood, as well as Star Wars, Jordi Labanda drawings and alternative fabrics(like a giant plastic bow bra) . It’s like Tank Girl meets Pussycat Dolls, and bizarrely, it totally works.

Despite the outrageous designs and a reckless jumbling of styles, Soonik’s collection is restrained enough to still be wearable; you could imagine an OC-style vixen seducing her boyfriend’s dad with that black set (pictured left), or could picture any LA it-girl skipping her through a “this is Hollywood” TV show sporting one Soonik’s babydolls.

Estonian roots

Bizarrely, all of this sun-drenched Hollywood excess comes not from LA, but from an Estonian business graduate who lives in not-so-sunny London. Soonik (pictured above center) was first inspired to design lingerie on a visit to Spain, and her sunny collections seem to mirror her own “girl-hearted” personality. With all this potential, we can’t help thinking that Soonik should take a trip to California next, and maybe look up Ms. Stefani!

You can view Kriss Soonik’s swimwear collection at her website, and stockists can contact her for photos of her lingerie collections. Readers, we’ll keep an eye out for stockists of this bright new brand!

[...] Back last year when we first spotted Kriss Soonik we were amazed by her eclectic collection; it was so eclectic in fact that we were stuck for a definitive description – and as Danae pointed out: how many adjectives could be used to describe Kriss Soonik’s designs before exhaustion hit! It was the cross between quirky retro glamour and brightly coloured, full-on contemporary wackiness that made us love Soonik’s designs so much; it’s a bit like a big bowl of tropical fruit on our kitchen table – it brightens up our day just knowing it’s there!
