Google before you leap – Bargain Shopping Tips!
October 10, 2008 by Katie
Every once and a while I have to post an eBay rant, not because there is anything wrong with it (especially if the item you want isn’t shipped internationally), but I HATE to see people over paying, especially in these economic times and with the holidays coming. Lately I’ve been watching OPI for Sephora Metro Chic nail polish, Sephora’s Ltd Ed., Safari Train Case and the Marc Jacobs for Sephora Vanity case. Why do I watch if it bothers me so? I guess, somehow, I hope to reach these people and say to them, all of these things are still available, just call Sephora’s extremely helpful staff and they will tell you which stores still have it and they are happily mail it to you.
I just saw the $9 bottle of Metro Chic (available as of 10/10) listed at over $40, the Marc Jacobs case is $43, but selling here for over $90 w/$55 shipping!!! and my favorite is the Sephora Safari train case…still online for $40, going for over $60 plus $10 shipping (Shipping is free @Sephora with a $50 purchase or $6 without).
It’s not just eBay either. The Gilt Group Online Sample Sale, just had a sale on Lauren Merkin handbags and the sold out of several styles. Lauren Merkin is having the same sale, but her prices are about 40% lower than the Gilt Sale.
All I’m asking is when you buy online, since you are in front of your computer anyway, run a quick search by brand name. Check out the prices to make sure you’re getting a great deal and tell your friends, because friends don’t let friends overpay. If you are gregarious make new friends in other countries and start a reciporical shopping relationship. Maybe trade your Rafe NYC, Botkier or Anya Hindmarch handbag from Target U.S. for a Stella McCartney, Josh Goot or Zac Posen dress from Target Australia. I’m sure you can work something out.
