When Alison asked me to try the Lilah bra and knickers set from La Lilouche I was enthusiastic (she always has the most gorgeous underwear herself!) but I wasn’t prepared for just how lovely the set would be. But more than that – the effect was amazing. First of all, the all-important fit and comfort of the bra: faultless. It gives me a fantastic shape and just seems to have livened up my boobs, somehow – it’s as if they’ve been dozing for a while and have just been woken up by this fabulous bra (as opposed to the kiss of a handsome prince)! The soft satin ruched straps are broad enough to give supreme comfort and leave no mark when the bra’s removed, and the lace cups are lined so there’s no scratchy, itchy feel that some lace bras cause. It’s one of those bras that is so comfy that you forget you’re wearing it – until you catch a tantalising glimpse of the beautiful pink French lace. I am so taken with the look of the bra that I keep rushing off to the bathroom to whip up my blouse for another look. It’s just gorgeous. The Swarovski crystals on the darling little handmade bow at the front are a genius addition – this bra is meant to be seen, it’s a sin to cover it up!

The knickers, like the bra, are super comfy. But how can something so incredibly sexy also be so very, very comfortable and easy to wear? It’s the sheer softness of the lace and the beautiful satin low-slung waistband that sits everso lightly on your hips without digging in – so there’s no bulge over the top, no matter how fleshy you are in that area. There’s the cheekiest little peephole at the back, with, like the bra, an adorable little silk satin bow adorned with Swarovski crystals, and the bow is repeated at the front too so you look gorgeous, whichever way you turn!

This set has swiftly become such a favourite of mine that I’m in a huff when it’s in the wash. But already it’s shown that it’s just as gorgeous now, after multiple washes, as the first time I wore it.

The start of our Scottish summer was promising: it was unusually warm and sunny! As always we were out in our droves and feeling continental, now cafes and pubs have realised the importance of providing outdoor seating. It was all very exciting. Until the rain began to lash down: relentless is probably the only way to describe it. But living in Edinburgh we’re used to it (as are the tourists) and we always have plan B up our sleeves – thank goodness for museums, art galleries, and lingerie!

The Verdict: Do I have to take it off?

One rainy morning a parcel arrived: it was packed with lingerie. A box of pretty things is a very good way to start the day and it’s even better when the pretty things look like they’ve been designed with you in mind! After pulling out each piece with an Ooh and an Aah, I came across the Ophelia Playsuit. Although I’m in possession of a teddy or two, I’ve never actually found a bodysuit I really want. This I wanted.

Liya Amar, a former senior designer for London-based High Street stores, is now a freelance designer and alongside it decided to come up with her own label, La Lilouche. Based in Tel-Aviv, Liya uses beautiful silks, Chantilly lace and Swarovski Crystals to enhance her stunning collections that encompass both contemporary design and boudoir elegance. It’s no wonder I fell in love with her lingerie!

Before I had the honour of actually trying the Playsuit, I had seen it in the images (above); the sheerness of the silk, the gorgeous back and delicate lace appealed more than anything I have seen for some time. While we like to harp on about the importance of images, it is of course the actual design and fabric that are the ultimate test; but somehow I could see this suit was going to be a winner. And it most certainly is.

I’m not sure I have ever come across a more flattering design: the roomy silk chiffon is incredibly forgiving. Even in the days before I had any right to complain about my tummy, I did – if only La Lilouche had entered my life way back! The gentle, silk tie that draws together the oh-so-sexy cut out back is divine, and performs beautifully whichever look you decide upon. The bottom or knicker part of the suit was the part that surprised me most: with my aforementioned tummy issues, I tend to go for a bigger knicker – unless I’m feeling very brave (or insanely chirpy); the playsuit’s knicker part stopped in a normally worrying place and yet succeeded in giving me the best shape I think I’ve ever seen. It was a true lingerie miracle moment!

I love lingerie and have never been the type to keep it for ‘special occasions’ or wait until I can share it with a significant other (though I do have some pretty understanding friends who don’t mind me parading new items in front of them). My Ophelia Playsuit has therefore had a lot of wear already and has stood the test of wear-wash-wear-wash. I absolutely adore it and I’m already hoping Liya will consider making the suit in a different colour – just so I can admire myself in another shade!

With a rather unseasonal dip in temperature, we really need something to keep us in a sunny mood!

The designer behind Toad Lillie, Laurie Shapiro, is self-confessed lover of gowns from the 1930′s – 1950′s, but realising that it’s not always practical to swan about in a glamorous gown she set out to make more realistic, wearable and affordable designs. A visit to a burlesque show inspired Laurie to get together with her friends and have a pastie making party – and a passion was born! Her adorable and amazingly seductive designs hit the spot where others have failed; it’s not just passion this lady possesses, she has real, raw talent.

Vraiment Jolie!

The elegantly-named new collection by Kiss Me Deadly is beautiful. We’ve always been a fan of KMD, but with the light, springy colour it’s like finding a whole new label! There is a certain je ne sais quois about the ballet shoe peach that makes the Madonna a la Gaultier bra so special. We love a longline bra and although we dearly wish we could persuade them to increase the cup sizes (so all of us could benefit), it’s reassuring that Kiss Me Deadly produce true-to-size designs that work.

It’s no suprise that KMD’s suspenders look tantalizing; their functional, six strap designs and proper, metal clasps are fabulous and essential for holding up your silk stockings (you’ll get none of that pulling or cutting in you get with flimsy ‘fashion’ suspenders). And if you’re not a stocking wearer, there are still a cute pair of knickers that will make your derriere look more than peachy!

While Chanteuse isn’t completely new to the lingerie scene, the label is now spreading its beautiful wings and going online! Chanteuse is not your average luxury label, rather it takes its vintage-inpired designs one step further than we’ve seen before – we see twenties, thirties and forties with a stunning dash of Victorian decadence. The detailing is spectacular with tiny, silk-covered buttons, pleating, ruching and lace all playing a part in one gorgeous collection.

It’s January, the month to make resolutions – and the month to break resolutions (which is why I make mine in February). We know how tough it is to keep New Year’s resolutions, so we thought we’d suggest one we’re sure you’ll keep!

Wonderful Ways With Wood!

As a child I remember learning how to make recycled paper – it was a messy business and quite honestly it didn’t produce anything worthy of using a pen on. Whizz forward a few decades and recycled products have hit big business.

Of all the recycled products I’ve come across this has got to be one of the sexiest: recycled pine-tree fibre lingerie – made in France. This incredulous-sounding product is so appealing I’m willing to do pretty much anything to get my hands on it. Among its attributes g=98 lingerie boasts temperature-regulating comfort and cashmere softness – not necessarily what we’d expect to hear from a Pine tree.

At a pretty reasonable 28 Euros for a sexy shorty, I’m pretty much hooked. And as the shorty skips its way into my shopping cart, I’m finding myself clicking on ‘continue shopping’ as I wistfully look at the equally reasonable leggings!

Comforting Cotton

Silk and Organic Cotton at Greenfibres

No matter which lingerie personality you are, there’s sure to be a pair of comfortable cotton knickers filling a cosy place in your lingerie drawer. I recently discarded my old favourites and am still waiting to fill the void they left.

After much searching these rather lovely (in a comforting way) and simple silk and organic cotton knickers (£23.99) at Greenfibres attracted my attention. In terms of price they aren’t going to satisfy those who normally go for a five pack at the supermarket, but you can always treat yourself to one pair to go alongside your regular-priced cotton pants (for these try Gossypium, priced around £3)!

Sensational Silk!

Violet Haze by Enamore

It goes without saying that when we talk ethical, we have to mention Enamore: cute, flirty and downright sexy, Enamore show no signs of slowing down when it comes to lingerie. We loved their Bedrock collection, and this season their Violet Haze shorts (£42) are not only ticking the ethical boxes, they’re bang on with colour, style and of course fabric. Unless you have a kind wallet, these aren’t going to be your everyday knickers; but considering they’re made to order and made of silk and English lace (all ethical of course), the price tag seems tame compared to some!

With something to suit pretty much everyone (remember those Gossypium £3 knickers at ByNature), we’re sure a New Year’s resolution like this is going to stick – after all, the great thing here is: no withdrawal is needed!
