We’re into the second week of the big freeze in Scotland. To say it’s chilly is a serious understatement, as is to say: the country is rather under-equipped when it comes to sudden snowfall. Ah the final round of my Dressing Gown Review (if I don’t get the Coco Ribbon Kimono I mentioned on Wednesday for £20).  So as I lounge here on this cloudy day, knowing that Spring is on it’s way and wishing it would get here already, here are another couple of my favorite robes and a bit of a review!

Vintage Silk Kimonos

They are generally silk with beautiful design and lend to a number of looks from geisha to 1920′s vamp to a backstage dressing room burlesques starlet.  You simply won’t find anything this affordable that can provide so much versatility and flat out glamor.  You can find them at places like Bittersweet Butterfly, ebay and Etsy (if you’re willing to work) and my favorite Vintage Kimono.com.  Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $2000 (based on age, fabric, quality and condition) the obi’s (wide belts) aren’t generally not included and traditionally, so I’m told, are not meant to match the kimono.   (shown: a dramatic silk Furisode in excellent condition $625 at Vintage Kimono.com)

Spoylt’s Temptation Dressing Gown

Remember when we couldn’t turn on the television with out seeing Spoylt lingerie (Sex in the City,  Desperate Housewives, Two and a Half Men,  The New Adventures of Old Christine, My Boys, the list goes on and on).  Well I fell in love with the luxurious Decadence  midnight blue, velvet robe with magenta silk lining and padded satin belt that doubled as an eye mask and  as luck would have it there was a clearance sale.  I pick-up the robe, wristlets, garter and knickers all for $125.  It is everything velvet and silk should be especially with a retail price of $465.  I also have the light weight, fuchsia,  silk Seduction Robe with the signature blindfold belt, very elegant Summer evening, albeit a bit pricey.   Spoylt is now under new management and you can buy both robes at their website for 50% off or check ebay (Chelsea Marketeer’s has the Ingrid Velvet Robe (red silk lining) for only $125).

Undrest’s Marissa Robe

What’s not to adore about this sweet little pima cotton robe?  It’s soft, cozy and the ruffles are totally cute and it can easily be worn as a beach cover or lounge top with either the matching pants or cute bloomer shorts.  When I saw this range at T.J. Maxx I went a bit crazy, thank goodness the DH was there to calm me down our I would have bought one of everything in both colors.  You can still pick up this wonderful robe at Faire Frou Frou and matching pieces at Panties Required and they are On Sale! Skin Lingerie Organic Terry Robe

December 2008 Figleaves US had a major consolidation sale -up to 90% off, so how could I resist picking up the Skin Lingerie Organic Terry Robe (Alison got the sweet ruffle robe in pale pink).  Skin loungewear is  as comfortable as it is luxurious, a bit like having your own portable spa experience.   And while this robe is no longer on sale, Catriona MacKechnie does have some lovely pieces on sale for 30% to 50% off.  (shown: the Organic Terry Robe by Skin -retail price $175)

Wonderful Ways With Wood!

As a child I remember learning how to make recycled paper – it was a messy business and quite honestly it didn’t produce anything worthy of using a pen on. Whizz forward a few decades and recycled products have hit big business.

Of all the recycled products I’ve come across this has got to be one of the sexiest: recycled pine-tree fibre lingerie – made in France. This incredulous-sounding product is so appealing I’m willing to do pretty much anything to get my hands on it. Among its attributes g=98 lingerie boasts temperature-regulating comfort and cashmere softness – not necessarily what we’d expect to hear from a Pine tree.

At a pretty reasonable 28 Euros for a sexy shorty, I’m pretty much hooked. And as the shorty skips its way into my shopping cart, I’m finding myself clicking on ‘continue shopping’ as I wistfully look at the equally reasonable leggings!

Comforting Cotton

Silk and Organic Cotton at Greenfibres

No matter which lingerie personality you are, there’s sure to be a pair of comfortable cotton knickers filling a cosy place in your lingerie drawer. I recently discarded my old favourites and am still waiting to fill the void they left.

After much searching these rather lovely (in a comforting way) and simple silk and organic cotton knickers (£23.99) at Greenfibres attracted my attention. In terms of price they aren’t going to satisfy those who normally go for a five pack at the supermarket, but you can always treat yourself to one pair to go alongside your regular-priced cotton pants (for these try Gossypium, priced around £3)!

It goes without saying that when we talk ethical, we have to mention Enamore: cute, flirty and downright sexy, Enamore show no signs of slowing down when it comes to lingerie. We loved their Bedrock collection, and this season their Violet Haze shorts (£42) are not only ticking the ethical boxes, they’re bang on with colour, style and of course fabric. Unless you have a kind wallet, these aren’t going to be your everyday knickers; but considering they’re made to order and made of silk and English lace (all ethical of course), the price tag seems tame compared to some!

With something to suit pretty much everyone (remember those Gossypium £3 knickers at ByNature), we’re sure a New Year’s resolution like this is going to stick – after all, the great thing here is: no withdrawal is needed!

Italian Made Lingerie by Bella Di Notte

We may think of Italy as a country where we go for guaranteed sunshine in the Summer, but they certainly seem to have a knack for coming up with gorgeously warm underwear. We love family-run Bella Di Notte, whose ‘winter’ underwear range includes the Rossella Trouser Brief Body (above) made of a very cosy 85% wool (and 15%silk) – it may be designed to offer trouser wearers a cosy lingerie option without the fear of VPL, but we love the thought of wearing this under a winter dress this season!

Next weekend will see the first of many Pop Up ‘Eco’ Boutiques: the well-known online boutique Enamore, where you can find fabulous eco lingerie, stunning dresses and gorgeous accessories, are going live! Wundervoll – The New Collection

The Berlin based underwear and lingerie label, Wundervoll, caught our eye last year in Paris, where we were quickly drawn to the gorgeous fabrics and fabulous designs. Founded by Matthias Jaschke in 2008, we’re delighted to see the German label has grown enormously since then and is now available not only in Germany but in the US, and even China.

Using silk jerseys and organic cottons in almost futuristic, metallic colours, the current collection’s designs have an air of art deco about them, while retaining comfortable simplicity. We adore the silk jersey triangle bra $120/Euro 79.90 and high briefs $174/Euro 119.90 – it’s understated elegance at its finest.

We have to say it: Wundervoll really is wonderful and although it’s not yet available online in the UK, we don’t think it’ll be long! For those in the US, you’ll find Wundervoll at Catriona Mackechnie, and for those in Europe, Wundervoll is available at CAZAR (who ship worldwide).

I’m a big fan of GreenKnickers; I love everything about them: from their earth friendly practices and unbelievably reasonable prices, to the cheeky sayings like  Eat Organic embroidered on the front.  I also love the silk/hemp side-tie knickers and in fact I own several pairs – I love them for comfort, quality of fabric and sheer fun girlyness!

The shantung- like fabric has a slight shine with good heft, modest cut and a great fit.  I love the recycled gift boxes that come complimentary with every order, which definitely beats getting your goods in a plastic bag!

My only regret  is that Green Knickers don’t make these in briefs in the style of their Lucky Wedding Knickers (which are 50% off until the end of August), if they did I would wear them all the time!  As it stands I wear them only for lounging as they tend to produce bulging at the hip under clothes.  But that’s ok because the point of the tie sides is that they’re are meant to be seen, and as far as I’m concerned, they’re as adorable as they are comfortable!

Daisy Green Bra and Enamore Postpone Launch of the ‘Best Ever’ Ethical Bra

When a public transport strike hits it can cause havoc with those used to their commuting routine; by using the perhaps more healthy option of walking or cycling whenever possible, disruption however can be minimised. When a public transport strike causes the launch of a new bra to have to be postponed, it’s serious.

Today’s tube strike in London (UK) has left ethical aficionados Daisy Green and Enamore with no other choice than to postpone the eagerly awaited launch of their ‘Best Ever Ethical Bra‘.
